Garfield is also a noted artist in his own right, with a number of critically acclaimed projects that are as varied as they are enjoyable. For his newest single, David puts a new twist on a Stevie Wonder cover that was already a hit for him. David tells us the story behind this incredible new remix of “Go Home":

"‘Go Home’ has always been one of my favorite Stevie Wonder tunes, and I started performing it instrumentally with my groups here in Los Angeles in the ’80s. When I started my Outside The Box project in 2015, we recorded ‘Go Home’ on the first session. I released it as the first single for the project and it quickly caught on and hit number one on the smooth jazz charts!

"My plan all along was to do a longer version featuring some of the drummers and percussionists that played on the original - but with a ‘jungle’ feel. We used talking drums and djembes for the intro, and at the end of the song we do some breakdowns, which spotlight the great percussionist Lenny Castro. There’s also a vocal cameo from Shawn Atkins and the harmonica solo by Tim Welvaars which evoke the imagery of the legendary Stevie Wonder to make the song complete.

"We had such a ball cutting this track at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. Some of my favorite cats were there, including Tony Maiden, the original guitarist in Rufus, and bassist ‘Ready’ Freddie Washington, who wrote ‘Forget Me Nots’ and the mega smash theme song for ‘Men In Black.’ The horn section with the ‘Funky Doctor,’ Doc Kupka from Tower of Power, put the cherry on top! I am thrilled to be releasing this new extended remix version now – I love the groove!”

We are completely taken by this hot new take on a classic, and we’re equally proud to be presenting its World Premiere. Check out the “Jungle Mix” of “Go Home,” and welcome David Garfield back to SoulTracks.
