(April 26, 2021) There are some things that we couldn’t do when we were in our 20s; we just didn't understand life enough. Sure, with age comes creaky joints and the loss of some innocence, but age also brings incredible perspective and wisdom, and actually makes us better in so many ways. Jazz singer extraordinaire Dee Daniels is living proof.

Daniels has been wowing audiences for four decades, with long term stops in California, Vancouver and, most recently Harlem. And with each stage of her life, she’s brought that much more experience to inform her music. And never has that lived life been more on display than on her upcoming album The Promise.

Around the time of a shocking diagnosis of cancer in 2014, Daniels’ “fervent prayer” increased, and the life changing event literally changed her life, and even her music. Her life experience - the good and the bad - comes through in every nuance in her voice on “One Moment In Time,” the advance single from the The Promise that is out now. It tells a personal story of faith, hope and ultimately salvation that came not despite the trials, but perhaps because of the trials.

One moment in time, I had given up all hope
I was lost and couldn’t cope with life, no answers could I find.
I heard a voice tenderly it called to me,
Saying open your heart and you’ll see
Choose me, and the heavens will rejoice.

The song is a beautiful testament to all of the above, and Daniels delivers it with the conviction that she probably couldn’t have managed four decades ago. It's an ode that fits her season in life - and may resonate with others in that season.
