(November 10, 2023) The duo Scottish based duo Edy Forey, named after vocalist Edy Szewy and pianist Guilhem Forey, have divergent musical backgrounds that they bring together on their new single “The Fire.” Szewy grew up listening to classic soul and R&B as well as hip hop, while Forey feasted on a diet of jazz and 1970s era fusion from the likes of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.

Those genres merge at a familiar place on “The Fire.” Listeners can hear the improvisation and tempo changes that are common to jazz. Szewy’s air vocals ride along on a double bass played by Adam King. Guilhem showcases his creativity on the keys as he leads a strong rhythm section that features King and drummer Femi Koleoso.

The song itself is both a celebration of the independent spirit that burns within all of us, as well as a call to use those passions to make the world a better place. In the song, Szewy sings that her boldness wasn’t something that she sought or asked for. It was freely given as a part of her DNA.

That fire makes her opinionated, independent and demanding. The song’s pace changes midway through the song from a statement of power to a prayer that the passion that burns within her be used to do good. Check out “The Fire” by Edy Forey here.
