(November 27, 2022) Christmas is a magical time for many reasons. The most important reason is the holiday’s religious significance. Anyone who has children, especially small ones, will collect many warm and loving memories of watching them open their gifts. Being together with family and visiting friends, particularly those who live far away, is another enjoyable aspect.

Christmas is also a very romantic holiday. Christmas probably runs neck and neck with Valentine’s Day for the holiday in which the most people get engaged. Eugene Cole’s new holiday tune “Just Like Christmas Before” is a ballad that captures the holiday’s nostalgia and romance.

The tune tells the story of two lovers who are together for Christmas after being apart for previous holidays and how he anticipates making new memories with his old love. We don’t know why they were apart. Perhaps, one of them had been deployed overseas or maybe they are reconciling after a breakup. Whatever the reason, “Just Like Christmas Before” captures the feeling that comes when best gift comes from sharing the day with that special lost but now found someone.

Cole, with his powerful and rangy voice, brings an intimacy and theatrical element to the tune. His performance is a throwback to a style of singing that is soulful, honest, vulnerable and – yes – a bit sentimental. But that’s OK. He’s taking us to a place we’ve all been.
