(November 4, 2016) We’ve had a love affair with the great Freda Payne for decades, and it is a blessing that she is not only still recording, but recording so well. Over the years, she’s worked often with producer Preston Glass, including her excellent single “From The Inside,” one of our recent Lost Gems. Well Freda and Preston reunite again on a new ballad that teams her with three time Star Search winner Clif Payne.
“No Pain No Gain” was written by Larry Batiste, Preston Glass & Clif Payne, and the song has “instant classic” written all over it, harkening the many Philly soul ballads of the 70s. And the Nigel Lowis Downtown Mix gives the whole affair a classy urban feel.
