(April 3, 2023) Gareth Donkin’s new song “Geek Out” is about an artist losing himself in the creative process, and how when that happens concepts like time have no meaning and needs like rest often get ignored.

The feeling Donkin describes on this infectiously funky mid-tempo tune is one that anyone who has ever been in a creative flow can understand. The ideas come fast and there’s this feeling that the muse will abandon you if you stop to get a little rest or to grab a bite to eat, so you keep on flowing.

“Geek Out” has the sound of a 1980s funk cut. The song is propelled by a bouncy bass line that provides a grooving foundation for Donkin’s buttery falsetto and some deft work on the keyboards.

Donkin comes to this song with a biography that sets him apart as a music geek. He developed an obsession with jazz piano and drums before turning 12, picked up DJing and taught himself how to record and sample in high school. Donkin was writing and recording his own material by the time he entered college to pursue a degree in production. So, it’s clear that London based singer-songwriter and producer has spent more than a few late nights in the woodshed geeking out. Check out Gareth Donkin’s “Geek Out” here.
