(September 8, 2021) We all could use a little more encouragement, inspiration and messages of love right about now. Thankfully, French born singer-songwriter Goldey has done that. With his latest single, his first piece of recorded studio music since 2015, Goldey has penned a heartfelt tribute to his daughter.
“To the Moon” is pleasantly arranged like a mini symphonic masterpiece. Opening with intimate acoustic guitar plunks and Goldey’s sun-kissed vocals so reminiscent of prime era Howard Hewett, the song suddenly picks up with rhythm as it gives nods to ‘70’s soul. He’s definitely in good company, teaming up with lyricist Crystal Petit, guitarist Nyr Raymond and having the blessing of David Abakan – a talented French musician we covered back in 2018.

Deep inside, the mountainous riffs akin to the closing minutes of EW&F’s “Fantasy” take off with such glorious sweeping strings. It’s a song of bountiful care, pushing one to reach their full potential. As the sweet groove paces forward to its apex, the music is completely engulfed with lyrics of motivation (“And I pray that you keep it up/You’re unafraid, you’re so brave, seize the day.”) And at the end, when the music is reduced to a fading whisper, Goldey leaves a message of hope that ultimately stays with us: “Gonna reach, gonna reach even higher/You can go, you can go where you wanna/You can be, you can be what you wanna/Gonna be, gonna be even stronger.”
The song arrives with full fervency when showcased inside the companion concept video handled by Emmanuel Bardouil’s sharp comic book animation, which style comes off as a Calvin and Hobbes-meets-Boondocks hybrid. And yes, that’s Goldey and his daughter being whisked into a fantasy full of blazing rocket ships, open blue skies and sweet parental love.
