(June 9, 2017) -- Earlier this week we gave SoulTrackers the good news that two legendary acts – The Isley Brothers and Santana -- were joining together to release a new album of collaborations on August 4, to be called Power of Peace.
A family affair, Power of Peace features two Santanas--Carlos (guitar) and Cindy (drums)--and four Isleys: Ronald (vocals) and Ernie (rhythm guitar) and their respective spouses, Kandy Johnson Isley (Ron's wife, she sings background on "God Bless the Child," "Body Talk" and "Gypsy Woman") and Tracy Isley (Ernie's wife, she also sings background vocals on "God Bless the Child"), performing a series of classic rock, pop and soul songs that inspired them.
In advance of the album, the group has released two songs that take very different paths:

The first is a cover of the 1966 Dionne Warwick gem, “What The World Needs Now.” Coming from the Burt Bacharach/Hal David library (recall that Ron Isley recorded a 2003 album of duets with Bacharach), the cut starts off surprisingly slowly and gently, before Carlos Santana’ recognizable electric guitar leads the track into a more upbeat and powerful stage, and ultimately into a fairly muscular take on a song that spreads a message that seems more appropriate than ever.
The other song is a scorching take on Swamp Dogg's 1970 song, "Total Destruction To Your Mind." Ernie Isley shows of his guitar chops on this one, and Ron Isley sounds like time stopped on his 25th birthday. This cut alone will make the album worth buying. We love it!
