Soul music fans likely first heard of James “D Train” Williams back in the early 80s when his group D Train shot to #1 with the hit “You’re The One For Me.” They went on to land more great hits with songs like “Keep On” and a cover of the classic “Walk On By,” while James also wrote for such other artists as Carl Anderson and Patti Austin.

It’s been awhile since we heard D Train behind the mic, but he has a prominent role in the new album by James Day, the hit disc Groove Nights. D Train growls and prowls his way through “Outta Da Funk,” which has just been reworked with a Boogie Back Remix that sounds just great.

We’re featuring this funky jam as our newest SoulTracks First Listen. Check it out below and welcome back the legendary James "D Train" Williams!
