(July 23, 2017) Webster defines “reverie” as a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts; a daydream. Flautist Jef Kearns' latest single is titled “Reverie,” but the tune that was just released is more likely to shake you out of the daydream than lead you into one. That’s not a bad thing in this case.

The “Reverie” that the Canadian treats listeners to is a funky and bouncy cut, and it just might change listener perception of Kearns’ chosen instrument. The flute is the kind of instrument ideally suited for taking listeners on a stroll through bucolic meadows and calming streams, but Kearns combines his instrument with steel drums and other percussive instruments to give this daydream the feel of an energetic jaunt on a Caribbean beach in the cool of the late afternoon or early evening right at the time when the action is about to start.
