First Listen: Jennifer Holliday sings to her "Baby Tonight"

    (May 24, 2019) She burst like a comet onto the scene in the early 1980s with her drop-the-mic performance as Effie in the stageplay Dreamgirls, and that was the beginning of the world's fascination with singer supreme, Jennifer Holliday.

    Over the next several years, Ms. Holliday released several albums, always sounding singular as a singer, even with uneven material. And she largely kept her fans satisfied with records in the soul, jazz, gospel and dance genres.

    It's been a few years since we've heard new music from her, but Ms. Holliday has quietly released a new light dance single that has a late 80s Soul II Soul vibe. And from the a cappella opening to the cool groove that follows, she sounds thoroughly wonderful.
