(May 27, 2020) Wanna know what a sultry bowl of soulful gumbo sounds like? Look no further from Jeremy Beck and the Heavy Duty Horns.

With years of experience playing alongside the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Missy Elliot, this fierce collective is quickly earning a name for themselves at home and abroad for their blend of vintage R&B and funk. The band’s frontman, Jeremy Beck, grew up in Alabama hearing the celestial sounds of gospel music coming from the rafters of the Evangelical church. After years of being groomed on classical via piano lessons, he later became transfixed by the sounds of New Orleans jazz while in college. And you can hear all of those influences and lots more inside the swanky, funky title track from their forthcoming EP Take Me By the Hand.

Led by Beck’s joyful tenor, this NYC-based eight-piece band oozes out jazzy soul on this swinging six-minute track that channels Tower of Power and Blood, Sweat & Tears. The opening lines even seem reminiscent of the riffs heard on Prince’s “Musicology.” By the time the sweltering sassy brass arrangements take over and Beck turns into a musical Moses of sorts (exclaiming “Lead me to your promised land” on the chorus), “Take Me By the Hand” turns into a fiery 21st century retelling of “Pick Up the Pieces.”

“We wanted to create something organic and real,” Beck explains. “We wanted to create something that would come as close as possible to capturing the energy of seeing this band live on stage.”

The band’s EP, Take Me By the Hand, drops June 26th. In the meantime, enjoy this World Premiere exclusive of their latest single.
