(February 12, 2019) Whoever said that funk is dead never listened to Karl Denson. Even before I had to pleasure of reviewing Brother’s Keeper, the great 2009 album by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe or his work with Zbonics on the 2013 album Time to Do Your Thing, I knew there good funk out there. KDTU just confirmed it.

And Denson rarely disappoints going back to his time as a founding member of the Greyboy Allstars, or his work as the saxophonist for the legendary Rolling Stones. He just takes all of his experiences in in rock, jazz, soul, blues and even hip-hop and mixes it into one funky stew.

Funk fans will hear that amalgamation of styles on “I’m Your Biggest Fan,” the lead single from KDTU’s upcoming album Gnomes and Badgers, that is due to be released in March.  The song is a hard charging tune featuring slashing guitars, percussive horns and a bumping bass line and tells the story about Denson kind of trying to dodge a long lost female acquaintance at a bar. Check it out here.
