That idea is explored on a new song called “Respite,” performed by Chicago singer Kiéla Adira. The lyrics captivate you instantly as Kiélasings (in a storytelling style) about her journey to escape from a toxic relationship. During this journey, she learns a powerful yet simple lesson about emotional baggage – we carry what we keep. That statement provides a subliminal reminder that if we let go of unnecessary burdens, we will no longer be weighed down by carrying them around. “Respite” is the lead single from Kiéla’s second EP Fool’s Croon, which has been in the making for two and a half years. She said, in part: “‘Respite’ and the entire EP has allowed me to step outside my comfort zone and tap into a more vulnerable side of myself that I don’t generally display publicly.” “Respite” is also a refreshing change from the latest sounds on mainstream radio. Featuring elements of neo-soul and jazz, it’s evident that Kiéla Adira draws inspiration from artists ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to India Arie.
Kiéla’s new EP Fool’s Croon is being released on November 10th, on which day she’ll celebrate the accomplishment with a special show at Epiphany Center for the Arts in her hometown of Chicago.
