(October 14, 2022) One of contemporary jazz’s steady players, Kim Waters has delivered his signature tenor and alto saxophones embracing multi-genres for over three and a half decades.  While Waters originally chose the violin, his final selection in the saxophone family of instruments was his ultimate true calling.

Since the traditional jazz-trained Waters first came on the smooth jazz scene, the fans and critics have always been on-board.  Besides his sharing stages with music superstars like Al Green and Gerald Albright, SoulTracks made sure Water’s accomplishments behind vocalists like Maysa and Phil Perry were noted. Celebrating two dozen solo CD’s since 1989, the longtime Shanachie Entertainment artist heads into mellow territory for the upcoming project #25, entitled That Special Touch.

First Listen now raises the curtain on Waters’ first track off That Special Touch with “If I Was Your Man,” a Billboard Adult R&B hit in 2007 for veteran R&B balladeer Joe.  And this song choice works on all levels, frosted with a pleasing intro and backing vocals from Raynard Gibson.  Waters guides the production playing most of the instruments with a soundtrack that should find a home with Adult R&B and smooth jazz loyalists.  For those who appreciate a romantic respite like “If I Was Your Man,” Waters and Gibson provide just the right touch.
