First Listen: Kirk Whalum is glorious on "Get Your Wings Up"

    (August 30, 2019) There are few artists who garner the universal respect of jazz, soul and Gospel fans like saxman and Grammy winner KirkWhalum. Kirk is readying his much anticipated new album, Humanité, October 11, 2019 on Artistry Music/Mack Avenue Music Group, and the sounds coming in advance are glorious.

    Produced by British jazz trumpeter and session musician James McMillan, Humanité is a world tour on record, with tracks recorded in multiple countries with such internationally acclaimed artists as Japanese jazz pianist Keiko Matsui, New Zealand guitarist Andrea Lisa, and Kenyan star Kasiva Mutwa, as well as American stars like the legendary bassist Marcus Miller.

    For the first single from the album, Whalum brings in New Zealand singer Andréa Lisa. Together, they create a gloriously inspirational midtempo cut, “Get Your Wings Up.” With jazz flourishes galore, the song is an instruction on soaring to your potential, and bringing others with you. And the bright sound is certainly making us soar.
