(December 15, 2023) One item on Lawrence Welton’s “what I want to be when I grow up” list was a drummer.  His love affair for the backbone of the rhythm section began when he was twelve years old.  After Welton studied percussion and harmony at Malcolm X College in his hometown, Chicago, Illinois, he pursued the behind the scenes of the recording industry.

His affection of R&B’s finest such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder would distinguish his career as a performer and producer.  Choosing to stay as an independent artist through his Ensight moniker, Welton recorded his debut album RSVP in 2006.  And his production work on “Gimme Dat” by Kenya Henry (who sang w/David Hollister and KeKe Wyatt) generated a platform on Soul Togetherness 2013 compilation that included Chicago’s The Chi-Lites. From time to time, Welton continued to release singles (“Just Can’t Wait” and “More Than You Know”).

SoulTracks now introduces Welton to the First Listen pages with his original Christmas track, “Christmas Love.”  Welton’s production recalls an old school R&B slow jam from the nineties, anchored by lots of sparkling keys and soft grooves.  The title speaks of rekindling love (and some fantasy in between) during the holidays as the gentleman passes on compliments to his forever lady: “You are more beautiful than the snow.”  Much appreciation to Welton in jump starting the 2023 Christmas party.  Check “Christmas Love” out!
