(January 16. 2023) Two years ago, SoulTracks readers expressed their love for singer supreme Ledisi by choosing her in multiple categories in the SoulTracks Readers' Choice Awards. And like those fans, we've been waiting since then for new music from one of the greatest vocalists around.
That waiting is now over, as Ledisi has teamed with longtime collaborator, songwriter and producer Rex Rideout, for a bluesy ballad that checks an awful lot of boxes for us. "I Need To Know" is the story of a woman who wonders how she and her lover have "gotten to the point where we can't talk about things." She is wondering whether her love is ending, and the singer pours out the emotion in a way that is both convincing and beautifully expressive.
This is an auspicious return of an artist who isn't afraid to tackle anything musically, and we're all there for this powerful cut. Check out "I Need To Know" below.
