(February 20, 2020) From her homebase on the coast of Italy’s beautiful Lake Garda, Lisa Marie Simmons
collaboratively leads two different ensembles – Hippie Tendencies and NoteSpeak – with keyboardist, arranger, and songwriter Marco Cremaschini, each deeply but differently informed by the struggles and triumphs in Simmons’ own life.
The two have combined to create the new project, NoteSpeak, an album that combines jazz, soul and spoken word into an amalgam that sounds great, even as it delivers real messages.
One of the songs from the project is “Every Generation’s War,” a thoughtful piece about the reality of human aggression and those trying to control it.
Simmons says, “I find in writing songs that I’m often walking that thin line – I’m trying to make a personal, individual experience universal.”
