First Listen: Melba Moore teams with Crack of Dawn on "Tiempo"

(October 15, 2020) Funky R&B purveyors Crack of Dawn broke down the barriers for Black bands in Canada during the mid-‘70s, when the group was signed to a major label deal with CBS. Concurrently, stateside, Broadway star Melba Moore was beginning a successful career crossover into soul and disco. Over four decades later, both acts show no signs of slowing down.

Crack of Dawn members Dennis Nieves and Michael Dunston penned a moving tune about the healing process entitled “Tiempo” (Spanish for “time”) some years ago, but it’s only now coming to the surface. With a soothing melody that complements the song’s reflective lyrics ideally, “Tiempo” is delivered with yearning yet vulnerable vocals that show the band and Moore in top form.
