First Listen: Mike De'Cole longs for "Nights Like This"

    (November 1, 2021) Mike De’Cole is living proof of the truism that inspiration can come from heartbreak. He used the pain that came from a broken heart to begin writing music, and now his songwriting touches on any topic that moves him emotionally and intellectually to create. De’Cole has written songs inspired by his desire for a conceive a better and more peaceful world in the aftermath of the death of black men and women at the hands of the police.

    Still, affairs of the heart, love and romance are what usually drive De’Cole to put pen to paper and then to use his powerful baritone to bring those words to life. That has been the case over the course of career that includes releases of EPs Simply Wonderful and So It Was Written, and it is the case with the release of his latest single “Nights Like This.”

    The song is about the realization that two people are in the same place at the exact right moment and that something transcendent and long lasting can happen if they seize that moment. “Nights Like This” falls into an easy, mid-tempo groove that gives De’Cole the space to use his voice to take the idea of the fierce urgency of now into the romantic realms. And he does just that.
