First Listen: Miya Guggs is having some "Situationships"

(March 13, 2021) Miya Guggs was faced with an essential decision on which career to choose: While pursuing dream of reaching the WNBA, her long nights dedicated to watching music videos pulled her in another direction.  And through the encouragement of family members - including a cousin who showed her the recording studio ropes - the ultimate passion as a singer/songwriter outweighed the glory of hoops.  

In the past two years, the Kansas City, Kansas native has concentrated developing her pop/R&B/hip-hop hybrid wish songs such as “Vibe” and a duet with Richard Wingo of Jagged Edge on the club throbbing remix of “Bad Boy.”  

On Guggs’ First Listen debut, “Situationships” (Guggs Entertainment), the singer captures all of her fast-running thoughts of dealing with the emotional risks in the name of love: “And I don’t want to dig deep/In this situationship/Don’t want to fall so hard/Will get back up again.”  Handling the production duties is ProdRicci, whose backdrop on “Vibe” was colorful and inviting. 

As for “Situationships,” the piano and drum pads end up stuck in first gear.  But what injects life to this track is Guggs’ insightful storyline which sincerely speaks to the everlasting roller coaster ride involving romantic commitments.  With a debut EP, Patterns, due later in 2021, we’re looking forward to to see where Guggs’ takes her artistic ambitions and maturation.
