(February 27, 2022) Odelet is a singer with a musical background that straddles two different yet connected genres: Her father resided in Detroit, where she was born, and like many Detroiters he had an abiding love for soul music, funk music and the music produced by Motown Records. Odelet’s stepfather in California liked old-world country music.

Classically trained and with vocal affinity for jazz music, Odelet found herself lending her voice to everything from country, folk, grunge and punk bands while she studied visual arts at Portland State University. Those musical experiences culminated in Odelet releasing the alternative album Experiment. The project found Odelet seeking to draw the listener into the words and stories she tells by putting the focus on her vocals that are accompanied mostly by guitar.

Odelet returns to the soul music that she grew up listening to with her father on her new project, The Angels Album, the Everlasting Tape, Vol. 1, that features the hypnotic single “Wait for You.” Odelet has an affinity for the musical arrangements, instrumentation and recording techniques used in the 1970s, so tracks like “Wait for You” have a blues-based and wide open sound that offers plenty of space for the kind of jazz oriented stylings that Odelet includes in her vocals.
