(November 3, 2023) Nigerian-British singer/songwriter Ola Onabule engages in a conversation with himself on his new song, “Better Man.” The talk that Onabule has is the kind that self-aware people have after realizing that they are not where they want to be.

“Better Man” finds Onabule realizing that he must step his game up or he risks losing what he has or wants to obtain. In this case, a good woman is who he stands to lose – or keep – depending on whether he can evolve into the best version of himself.

“Better Man” is a song that embraces an idealized version of manhood where guys are accountable for their actions. These men own their virtues and shortcomings as they seek to build on the former while minimizing the latter. It’s a retro view of manhood is augmented by a decidedly old school musical arrangement put together by German producer and multi-instrumentalist Nick Flade.

“Better Man” is as unapologetic about its throwback sound as Onabule is about the old school lyrics that he penned and sings in his classic soul gritty baritone. The song features a tight horn section, electric organs, drums, a funk infused bass line and strong backing vocals. Check it out here.
