“One Step” is the first new single in over 30 years for RJ’s Latest Arrival, a band best known for their multi-platinum hit single “Shackles” in 1984. The group describes their new song as a “two-step anthem” that "officially ushers in the summer cookout season of 2023." This smooth steppers’ groove finds the band’s founding members Ralph “RJ” Rice and his wife DeDe Leitta trading vocals about their dance that’s inevitably turning into a romance due to the undeniable chemistry they feel for each other.

The finger-snapping jam is punctuated by guest rap verses from veteran Hip-Hop group Slum Village, which has a deep connection to RJ’s Latest Arrival. In 1998, RJ signed Slum Village - which at the time was a trio featuring famed producer J Dilla - to their first record deal with his independent label Barak Records, which was a go-to spot for many of Detroit’s finest Hip-Hop artists. And today, Slum Village – now a duo – includes RJ Rice’s son, producer Young RJ.
So, this musical collaboration by two groups from Detroit is truly a family affair; and maybe it’ll end up on the playlist for your next family affair. Either way, check out “One Step at a Time” here and don’t be afraid to step to the beat.
