(April 14, 2020) Sara Williams, better known as Sangin’ Sara, has been a fixture in the soul music world for a decade and a half, most notably working with soul singer supreme, Ledisi. She has also shared the stage with a who’s who of indie soul artists.
Now, Sara is moving to the front of the stage with her debut single. “Hello Reality,” created with Marcus McCauley, tells the relatable story of those days when life just doesn’t give us a break. Sara tells us, “I was having the worst MONTH imaginable. I found out that my “boyfriend” was cheating on me. The tour I was on had just cancelled, 2 shows in. I didn’t have a backup plan. My car had broken down, and I didn’t know how I was going to get it fixed. My daughter was sick, in and out of the doctor’s office. Life. Just. Sucked. It seemed like any way I turned was the wrong way. So, I wrote about it. ‘Hello Reality’ is for those cloudy days when you don’t find the silver lining, when you just want to go back to bed and try again tomorrow. And you know what? That’s okay. It’s a reminder that life isn’t always sunshine and roses, and that’s okay. It’s okay to say that it sucks.”
That pain we all occasionally feel is expressed here in a propulsive number that rides the border between rock and R&B, and Sara is absolutely convincing in telling her story.
