(June 20, 2020) At a time when the pandemic can overwhelm the senses on so many levels, musicians have been reaching for their go-to skill of a therapeutic studio session.  And Son of Pearl clearly subscribes to that soothing medicine, whether throwing down party jams or paying homage to icons.  While prepping his latest full-length (due at the end of 2020) that includes Prince’s “Pop Life”, the artist also known as Tedi Robinson was ready to provide his latest track to distract listeners who might be feeling the blues.

About a year ago, Son of Pearl treated SoulTrackers to a summertime mid-tempo chill moment entitled “Summer Love,” embracing eighties R&B romance.  Fast forward to June 2020 on another First Listen spotlight - heading back again to the olden R&B days for “I Can’t Get Enough” (SixNine Records Ltd.).  Production kudos belong to Son of Pearl’s longtime associates, D. Trent Kelly and Flightboy Music, who provide a smooth funk fest with synthesizer hooks and guitar licks, frosted with crackling bass guitar.  Yet the pleasant surprise comes with Son of Pearl’s simple but effective vocal performance.  In other words, pandemic time is temporarily standing still to enjoy the beginning of summer party.
