(May 12, 2020) When someone loses a loved one who greatly impacted their life, the grieving process is very personal.  And artists that have been touched by their fellow peers who have passed on turn to their musical gifts ton express their gratitude.

One of Stabe Wilson’s major inspirations was the music ministry of urban contemporary gospel icons Edwin and Walter Hawkins.  And his special thanks are captured on his recently released full-length debut entitled The Comforter: A Musical Tribute to The Hawkins.

In making this tribute experience even more personal, the Oakland, California based saxophonist invited musicians who collaborated with the Hawkins:  “I thought that it should involve people they worked with so I assembled most of the people that they worked with.”  A track from The Comforter, “Calling,” bridges contemporary jazz, gospel and soul into a sweet aroma of instrumental praise.  Wilson’s fluid saxophone interchanges with the enjoyable background voices match the tasteful orchestrations.  Kudos to Wilson for affectionately celebrating the Hawkins’ legacy with “Calling.” Check it out below and tell us what you think.
