(April 14, 2023) Soul Music Records was one of the first reissue labels to make a worldwide impact in reviving the catalogs of underrated rhythm and blues artists. While continuing that mission to this day with CD box sets, the company has more recently expanded its reach to include new digital releases by up-and-coming independent soul performers whose work stretches beyond the artistic parameters often enforced by major labels.
Los Angeles-based Takim, who released his first album in the early 2000s, is the latest artist to join forces with SoulMusic. Working with veteran producer Preston Glass alongside Christian Belnavis, the minister/vocalist pours soulful doses of energy into his third single release, “Dancing to a New Groove.” With the great George Benson contributing his classic guitar prowess from the song’s intro to a sparkling solo at its conclusion, the track is a summery affair of breezy melodies, sunny lyrics, and an effortlessly engaging delivery by Takim.
