(October 11, 2020) Even when we hear a new artist we like, we rarely write two stories about them in two months. But we will make an exception with Philadelphia singer Tanqueray Hayward, whom we introduced to SoulTrackers last month with her excellent T.L. Shider-produced debut single, “This Thing.”
Ms. Hayward has returned quickly with a new single that may be even better than her first. A classic sounding big ol’ soulful ballad, “This Kind of Love” could have been blaring from Philly radio stations in 1980, but it sounds absolutely fabulous in 2020. It recalls the best of the great Betty Wright, who we sadly lost earlier this year, and it tells the story of real love. As Tanqueray described it to us, "The song represents the kind of love that everyone wants; love that is patient, kind, and genuine."
