(July 6, 2023) The beat continues to go on for the legendary soul music group, The Whispers. We reported last year that, like superstar Taylor Swift a year earlier, the group had taken a big step to control their musical catalog by re-recording some of their biggest hits, so that they would retain the rights to the recordings. As group member Wallace “Scotty” Scott said, “We want to reap some of the financial benefits that record companies have enjoyed at our expense for decades.”

The Whispers have been rocking steady with the re-recordings since then, beginning with “And The Beat Goes On (Whispers Version)” last September and continuing with “Rock Steady,” and "Keep On Loving Me," each time working with longtime collaborabor Magic Mendez. Now the trio of Walter Scott, Wallace Scott and Leaveil Degree has returned with a new version of their breakout 1978 hit "(Olivia) Lost And Turned Out," a ballad the sweet tones of which belie the sad message of a young woman caught in a life she never wanted.

The Whispers show themselves to be in good voice on the new single, which again reminds us of just how deep their incredible catalog runs. Check out "Olivia" below and welcome these SoulTracks Lifetime Achievement Award winners back.
