First Listen: V3nus refuses to "Live a Lie"

    (November 15, 2022) R&B and neo-soul singer V3nus introduced herself to SoulTrackers with a bang last year with her song “New Body.” That tune allowed music fans to hear an artist who can combine classic, grown folk vocals and storytelling with production elements that nod toward some trends in contemporary R&B.

    V3nus returns to that winning formula on her latest recording “Live A Lie.” In a way, “Live A Lie” finds V3nus in a similar situation she presented listeners with on “Next Body” – a relationship crossroads. However, while “Next Body” had an optimistic, looking ahead for the next opportunity to find love feel, the percussion/guitar combo on “Live A Lie” sets a melancholier tone.

    Vocally, V3nus takes a somber, conversational and matter of fact tone as she explains to her soon to be ex that she’s realized that – despite their best efforts – she can no longer ignore what she sees and feels. This thing just ain’t working. V3nus skillfully crafts the lyrics in a way that makes “Live A Lie” into a story of her trying to make her lover acknowledge the truth that she sees clearly.
