(January 19, 2022) The beauty of Ward Brown’s new single “I’m Coming Home” is that it can work on so many levels. The tune is a romantic ballad about a man who is excited to come home to the woman he loves after a long day at the office, or even months or years of being deployed. However, the theme of a homecoming and connecting with those we love after being disconnected from them for so long takes on a different and deeper meaning after what Brown and the rest of the world have been through and are still going through.

The pandemic and the role it played in keeping people separated was in the forefront on the minds of Brown and his collaborator and producer Raymond Earl (Instant Funk) as they wrote “I’m Coming Home” and the other cuts that will be included on Brown’s self-titled album that is slated to come out later this year. “I’m Coming Home” is a tune that accomplishes what Brown has sought to do through the music that he’s released as a solo artist and as a part of the group Brown’s Bag – mainly to bring the collective richness and soulfulness that comes from bringing a group of instrumentalists and vocalist together to create.

“I’m Coming Home” is a song with many virtues and Brown’s powerful, emotive voice is chief among them. Brown uses that voice to tell a story that confirms the age old saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder while also reminding us that, when it comes to true romance, there is indeed no school like the old school.
