There weren’t many bigger stars in the 1980s than The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad. As Claire Huxtable, she won over the country as a model of a beautiful, intelligent, accomplished wife and mother at a time when television was not known for presenting those kinds of positive images of Black women.

But Ms. Rashad was more than just an actress. As she showed in a song and music video performed with her sister, noted dancer Debbie Allen, Rashad could both sing and dance with grace. And she and Ms. Allen showed off their vocal chops and their moves on a music video put together for 1989’s The Debbie Allen Special.

“More Than A Man” was a New Jack Swing-influenced song with the vibe of Janet’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” and the video showed the sisters strutting around New York, impressing the men until they ultimately jumped into a convertible with a couple of handsome guys who just happened to be their real life husbands, Ahmad Rashad and Norm Nixon.

The video is both cheesy and a blast to watch. Check it out below.
