Timeless is less a Sergio Mendes comeback album than it is a multi-artist compilation put together by the ubiquitous Black-Eyed Peas' Will.i.am.  This continues the Starbucks-izing of musical legends, similar to duet projects of the past two years by Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock.  Fortunately Timeless is better than both of those, largely due to fine guest performances by John Legend, India.Arie and Stevie Wonder and the musical sensibilities of Mendes (who is unfortunately overshadowed by Will.i.am for much of the album).  And while there are a few "My Humps"-like Peas throwaways here, there's enough meat here to make this an enjoyable listen and a welcome return for Mendes.
