(June 7, 2018) When a singer finds the right partner in creating music from the heart, professionally and personally, their yin and yang can create real magic.  The multi-gifted gospel vocalist Lexi and her husband/producer Michael Allen, teamed for several CDs on Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Records - one of which was nominated for a Stellar Award in 2004 - encompassing a unique mix of several genres.  However, after the passing of Allen in the mid 2000’s, the void for the singer/songwriter was understandably immense.  Though Lexi’s love of music and the Lord was not completely diminished, there was a missing spark that eventually needed serious rekindling in the studio after such a tremendous loss of a best friend. Thanks to her new label’s staunch support, Lexi now feels a rejuvenation she has not experienced in some time.

For our First Listen feature, “In The Room” (Motown Gospel), Lexi finds that missing spark by connecting with vocal producer/co-songwriter, Eric Dawkins, who definitely taps into more of Lexi’s softer, soulful vocal side. “In The Room” simmers with an R&B slow groove, but the lyrics focus strictly on untainted worship.  And Lexi’s intimate prayer effectively delivers down-to-earth gratitude for His deliverance, sans the aid of those high jolting notes for which she is famous.  “In The Room” will be featured on Lexi’s upcoming CD, Just Listen, her first in six years, where Lexi revisits the thirst for music and for God that brought her ministry success for nearly two decades.
