That month, the non-profit organization held a gala Grand Opening affair of TheFunkCenter, with guided tours of an exhibit that would please just about any R&B fan. Now, the organization is looking for a new, larger home, and is seeking donations to reach its goal.

The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center (“TheFunkCenter”) has moved from its current location in the Fire Block District on E. Third Street. TheFunkCenter sincerely enjoyed the opportunity to be temporarily located at this location so Funk fans of all ages could view and experience the history of Funk.
We appreciate the generosity of building ownership who donated this space to “TheFunkCenter” until such time that its current redevelopment plan commenced.

As with all charitable situations, change can often be challenging and seem untimely. Although this was a great location, it limited our ability to display artifacts in a true museum format. Its size, albeit limited, still afforded many visitors the pleasure of experiencing the wonderful history of this highly favored music genre that gave birth to many other modern-day sounds. More importantly, it recognizes the accomplishments of so many Dayton citizens who will never be forgotten. We expect this closure to be temporary as we begin our search for a permanent home. The out-pouring of support from around the world has been heart-warming causing us to realize that the new location needs to be at least 5,000 to 10,000 square feet. This will provide patrons with the opportunity to experience all programs and activities TheFunkCenter has to offer.
We are a voluntary organization. Individuals from Ohio, Indiana, Colorado, California, the Netherlands, Scotland, Japan and England have selflessly dedicated their time to making this a reality. Finding a permanent home will require raising capital to fund its day-to-day operations. In the past, visits to TheFunkCenter have been by appointment only. Its popularity has caused us to realize that we need to have a working staff as well. Therefore, we will be conducting various fundraisers to fund on-going expenses associated with operating the center.
