(January 4, 2021) As reported today by our friends at EURWeb, R&B singer Al B. Sure is attempting to recover from ailments that were serious enough that he was told by his doctor he had only a few months to live.
Now 51, Sure at one point tipped the scales at over 300 pounds and was suffering from gall bladder and other health issues. This year he decided with his doctors that bariatric weight loss surgery was an answer. As Sure posted on Instagram, “Hearing that I only have 4 to 6 months left if I didn’t fix me was eye opening and mind boggling.” His recent post also included a somewhat graphic video of a follow up procedure at the doctor's office related to the surgery, that gives a sense of the seriousness of his ailments.

Now reportedly weighing 195, Sure is hopeful that he is on the path to health, though it is clear that he has hurdles ahead. “Thank you Dr. Rosenberg for allowing me a few more years here with my loved ones.”
Born Albert Joseph Brown III in upstate New York, Sure broke out in 1988 with the double platinum album In Effect Mode, and his signature song, "Nite and Day." He was just a teenager at the time, but was catapulted to the top of the R&B music world, a place he kept for the better part of a decade. He was also a featured singer on the iconic "Secret Garden" track on Quincy Jones' Back on the Block album. He has recorded sporadically over the past two decades, particularly as his health deteriorated.
