Centric TV has announced the upcoming new series Apollo Live, a singing competition to be held at the legendary Apollo Theater. The Apollo has been known for two generations for its high powered Amateur Nights, and the show will play on that tradition to create a television show.
There is always a risk of overdoing a good thing, and the singing competition thing is getting a bit overdone, with at least a half dozen such competitions on TV. But one cool added feature is that Gladys Knight will serve as the head judge on Apollo Live. She'll be working with New Edition member Michael Bivins as well as rapper Doug E. Fresh and host Tony Rock.
