(August 12, 2018) We are very sad to inform SoulTrackers of the death of guitarist supreme, William “Blue” Miller, who had already established a legendary career as one of music’s premiere guitarists before helping to bring us the great India.Arie 17 years ago. Tragically, Miller died this weekend unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. He was 66.

A Detroit native, Miller had roles in various bands before teaming up with fellow Detroiter and rock superstar Bob Seger, with whom Miller played for several years. Miller moved to Nashville and developed into an A-list session musician, working with such artists as David Ruffin, Isaac Hayes, Gladys Knight and many more artists. He also formed the Gibson-Miller band in 1990 with Dave Gibson, and scored the country hits “High Rollin” and “Big Heart.”

More recently, Miller teamed with soul music great Arie, producing her breakout album Acoustic Soul as well as her follow-up Voyage To India. He remained a collaborator and a member of her band for several years.

On a personal note, Blue Miller both mentored and collaborated with my singer-songwriter niece, Julia Rizik, as she prepared for her upcoming debut album. Our family, like so many others, will be mourning this sudden, sad loss.
