According to the story, a protective order had been filed in court on January 12 by the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois, claiming that Edwards' wife, Brenda Edwards, had attempted to suffocate the bedridden star, and had otherwise abused him. Mrs. Edwards disputes the charges. An emergency protective order was granted against Mrs. Edwards on Jan. 18, effectively barring her from contact with him. A court hearing for her respond was cancelled due to the death of Mr. Edwards.
