(December 8, 2022) Jean Carne is an all-time great who defines the term “unsung.” She has lived the life of five performers, with an incredible legacy that includes recording with Earth Wind & Fire, creating classics with Norman Connors, coaching many of the great singers of the 1970s, and, of course, her own career as one of the key artists at Philadelphia International Records.

The 75 year old Carne has continued to stay busy. Earlier this year, she went back to her jazz roots, issuing a critically acclaimed disc of jazz recordings as part of the Jazz Is Dead series of Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. And now, she has quietly released another disc more in line with her soul music heyday. The Jazzy Soulful Sounds of Jean Carne & Friends is a collection of recordings Carne has made over the past several years, mostly working with producer and orchestra leader Butch Ingram, and featuring such musical friends as The Legendary Bluenotes and former Temptations singer Glenn Leonard. The disc includes mostly covers of classic soul songs, and Carne simply sounds great in her performances.

The album is slowly making it to music stores and streaming services, so keep an eye out. You can listen to it on Spotify below. Check it out.
