The term “acoustic soul” entered the lexicon for many when it became the title of India.Arie’s lauded debut album. But soul music artists have, for years, taken chances by stripping down the production in their performances and presenting naked versions of their songs – often providing new context and depth to familiar tunes.

The UK’s noted label Dome Records has gone all in on the power of acoustic soul, and has put together a stunning collection of recent acoustic radio performances by Dome artists from the US and UK, recorded at a number of BBC and commercial London radio stations.

Some of the performances are simply vocals and guitar; others feature keyboards or stripped down band line-ups. There is no fancy production or vocal effects.  The one thing that shines through these one-take performances is the quality of the vocalists and musicianship.
