(March 6, 2021) Following the sad recent passing of legendary Supremes singer Mary Wilson, Motown/Ume Records is reissuing an expanded version of the legendary performer’s 1979 solo debut album. Mary Wilson: Expanded Edition is the first digital release of the notable album. Work on the issuance was in the works over the past year, but has a sad poignance as it postdates Ms. Wilson’s passing. The release is scheduled for April 16, but is available for pre-order.

The new issue will include the original album content plus a whopping eight bonus tracks, including several previously unreleased tracks. “Why Can’t We Get Along” has never seen the light of day before, and will now be issued as the lead single.

Wilson’s album had the bad luck of timing of its original release. A largely dance-oriented album, it was issued at a time of a disco backlash, following Disco Demolition Night at Chicago’s Comiskey Park. But core R&B and Dance fans took to the album, and will welcome its reissue now, more than four decades later.

The album will also serve as a reminder of the up-front talent of a singer who was perhaps too often thought of in the background.
