(January 4, 2019) It’s been a tough few years for Robin Thicke. A very public failed marriage, blowback from his misogynistic single “Blurred Lines,” followed by a lawsuit from Marvin Gaye’s estate, the sudden death of his father, Alan Thicke, plus admitted substance abuse problems, all combined to create a sudden and dramatic fall from grace.

It would be enough to make anyone retreat, and for some to give up. But Thicke has found a new beginning with girlfriend April Love Geary, and now has a beautiful new song that is a departure from some of the more salacious, smug music that marked his most

“Testify” is a gentle acoustic ballad that speaks of the faith found to return from tragedy, which he documents in the song. Following the simple guitar opening, Thicke alternates between lower and upper registers to deliver one of his most authentic, compelling songs, one that shows both surprising vulnerability and humility. It is a welcome return for a talented artist who lost his way, but hopefully is back again.
