(April 14, 2020) We are sad to report that R&B artist Sweet Sable (born Ceybil Jefferies), who scored 90s hits with “So Special” and “Old Time’s Sake” and the album Love On My Mind has died, reportedly of COVID-19.

The Brooklyn singer boasted a deep, powerful voice that contrasted nicely with the dance-focused nature of her music. While she only recorded a few songs, they had tremendous staying power, and are often in heavy rotation on 90s-focused radio stations and playlists.

It continues to be so difficult to see so many people, young and old, succumbing to this dreaded virus. Rest in peace, Ceybil Jefferies.
