Throughout his illustrious career, the highly recognizable voice of Philip Bailey shone on Earth Wind & Fire's finest moments, such as “Reasons” and “That’s The Way of the World.” With a vocal arsenal of an extraordinary 4-octave range and signature falsetto, Bailey continues wowing his audiences to this day. Besides his EWF contributions, the singer/songwriter/musician built an impressive solo catalog encompassing jazz, funk, and gospel. And Bailey embraced his diversified talents influenced by classic Motown and vocal excellence from Ella (Fitzgerald) and Sara (Vaughn).

His first of three gospel projects, The Wonders of His Love (Myrhh Recordsfrom 1984, logged several top Billboard's Gospel and Inspirational chart positions. For our latest SoulTracks Sunday Gem, “God is Love” highlights multi-talented R&B musician Leonard Caston, Jr’s songwriting and production. The precious arrangement is anchored by Bailey’s steady lead (sans the falsetto) frosted with soulful adlibs by Jeanette Hawes (from the legendary The Emotions). And the lyrics touch on Jesus’ everlasting benefits: "When I was poor in spirit (when I was poor in spirit)/Jesus picked me up/Oh, what peace we have (what peace, what peace)/He reached down, and He touched me with His mercy."
