Publisher's Note: “What I’m Listening To Now” is a new SoulTracks feature where we ask some of our favorite artists what they are listening to, and share that with SoulTrackers

(February 20, 2016) Hey, SoulTrackers!  You and the staff at SoulTracks have supported my music in more ways than I could fathom, so it is a complete honor for me to "pay it forward" and share who I'm listening to these days.  As a musician and uber fan of music, it’s extremely hard to narrow it down to one artist because there are some true gems out there.  But, there is one artist who has kept my attention strong and is managing to get on a ton of my personal playlists.

This artist is Melissa McMillan.  Melissa is an independent soul/jazz singer and songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY.  Read my words carefully...watch out for this extremely talented artist with a voice that will keep you wanting more.  Her debut EP Melissa McMillan has reached international recognition and she is climbing the music radar for sure. Released in March 2015, her EP is full of original music and songwriting, yet leaves room for one enticing cover - Aaliyah's classic "One in a Million."  Melissa's delicate alto tone is a bit mesmerizing.  Her jazz and soulful influences are apparent, delivering moments of Gretchen Parlato and Sade vocally while her outstanding song writing and musical arrangements are contemporary and progressive.

The song "Fleeting Moments" will make you feel as though you're floating on love's ether while the more edgy "One Good Reason" will put you in the mood to bob your head with its pulsating progressive groove.  "All My Love" is a perfect example of blending elements of soul with jazzy chord progressions all while delivering smooth vocals and lyrics that remind you of why love feels so good.  The song that introduced me to Melissa is "Keep Coming Back To You" and indeed..that's what I've done!  I haven't put this EP down since I downloaded it.  Not one song is skipped.  Remember I told you first, Melissa McMillan is a multi-talented rising artist who is making a strong mark in the soul/jazz music scene.
