Mavis tells us, “Mama. The one thing that we all have in common is Mama. As children, we are often frustrated at the idea of having to listen and do what she tells us to do, when and how she tells us to do it. So, we complain, argue, fuss and fight. We get older, gain responsibilities, and eventually realize that we have our own voice. We manage our own lives, just as Mama does. So, why then, are we STILL listening as children, when we are full-functioning adults? We realize our power and freedom, and some of us even choose to kinda put Mama ‘in her place’ by letting her know that we ARE indeed adults, with responsibilities and families of our own; in short, GROWN.

“BUT. The time comes when darkness creeps in, covering our soul shine, rocking our very core, shattering our ideas of life, love, stability and comfort. It is there, in those dark places, that we spiritually want to return to the only safe place some of us have... Mama. We instantly understand why she said to either do, or NOT do things. Why she gave when we took. Why she sacrificed in spite of our ‘Grown’ mentality, mouths, and overall malfunction. And we love her even more than we imagined possible. We understand her level of love and sacrifice for us. We realize that we will ALWAYS be Mama's baby. We readjust our focus, with the understanding that, without HER, there IS NO US. And we finally overstand that Mama is TRULY our first God.”

It is a feeling we all face now and again, and Mavis has given it to the world in a wonderful ballad. We’re proud to present the World Premiere of this fantastic performance. Check out “I’m Grown” below and welcome Mavis SWAN Poole back to SoulTracks.
