(March 13, 2024) Sugaray Rayford is a throwback in the very best of ways. Every time the big-voiced baritone issues a new song, he takes us back to the classic soul/blues sound that dominated the south in the 1960s and early 70s, when Black radio rewarded singers who had vocal personalities as large as the incredible arrangements that supported them.

Rayford again brings his vocal magic to his upcoming album, Human Decency, which arrives on June 14. He also brings along a killer band, featuring Rick Holmstrom (guitar), Matt Tecu (drums), Taras Prodaniuk (bass), Eamon Ryand (guitar), Sasha Smith (keyboards) and Drake "Munkihaid" Shining (keyboards), MarkPender (trumpet), Joe Sublett (sax), Dan Kaneyuki (flute) and background vocalist Saundra Williams, all put together by producer and songwriter Eric Corne.

Today, Rayford gives an advance tease with "Ain't That A Man," a song that is half Stax, half blues, and all fun. It tells the story of a woman who is tired of dealing a man-child who isn't quite living up to her expectations, and she is letting him know he is getting to his last chance to grow up into a man worthy of her love. This is a number that has all the making of a southern soul classic, featuring a powerful performance by both band and singer.
